The thumb is the cornerstone of the hand and its complex movements. It is responsible for opposition – the opposable thumb – allowing us to accept and grasp wide objects. The thumb joint can be become arthritic, leading to swelling, pain and limited movement. The thumb can also become stuck or locked during bending, a condition known as trigger thumb.
